Freelancing Tips: How to Connect With & Onboard Clients as a Freelance Writer

In my last post, I talked about the basic things to know before starting freelancing. In today’s post, I’ll be sharing a few freelancing tips on strategies that you can implement to onboard your first client/subsequent clients as a freelancer.

1) Use of FREELANCING PLATFORMS

This is somewhat the most popular method a lot of freelancers use to target clients for their services. Notable platforms such as Fiverr,  Freelancer, Upwork, Toptal plays home to millions of freelancers from across the globe. So, you can register for an account on any of these platforms, set up a work profile, and connect with those who need your services.

2) COLD CALLING

Cold Calling is one of the oldest methods of pitching a product/service. Find phone numbers of prospective clients and call in to pitch your service. Whilst this might not be very effective for a newbie, it could be a success with an enticing offer, and convincing power of the freelancer over the phone.

3) EMAILING

Unlike cold calling (which could rudely interrupt your prospective client’s life), emailing is another way of getting your message across easily. It is scalable, unlike cold calling. You can send your offer details to as many as possible. However, I recommend you send a custom-fit email to leads you’ll be connecting with for the first time.

4) PAID ADVERTISEMENT

Google, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram provides a paid opportunity for you to get your offer in front of your target audience. Just by creating as simple as a landing page or post on social media, you can target your prospects to take a look at your offer and convert to your clients.

5) SOCIAL MEDIA POSITIONING

Creating good, valuable content on social media helps present a good picture for your brand. Also, steadily interacting with your prospective client’s posts can help influence your pitch. Also, it can help foster a good relationship with your clients before onboarding him/her.

6) BLOGGING

This is a long term strategy that caters to search engine users, i.e., Google, Bing. You can document your thoughts and knowledge around your service on your blog. As a freelance writer, you can use this strategy to build a portfolio. Then, optimizing it would help increase your chances of showing to the relevant audience in search of your service.

CONCLUSION

All of the above strategies are working solutions that can help you land your first client. So, either you’re a newbie freelancer or an experienced freelancer, you can employ one or more of these freelancing tips to succeed in the world of freelancing.
